Camp Kostopulos & RST Brands Come Together To Celebrate Camp K’s 50th Year

Camp Kostopulos is celebrating their 50th anniversary. In honor of this milestone, RST Brands donated their indoor furniture collections and other furniture pieces to the camp for their campers to enjoy.

Since 1967, the Kostopulos Dream Foundation has been “improving the lives of people of all abilities through education, recreation, and growth opportunities.” Via a collection of activities and services, Camp K has helped countless individuals with disabilities to gain self-confidence, learn life skills, and have fun at the same time.

Founded by Dan and Helen Kostopulos, Camp K sits on 25 acres of Emigration Canyon, less than 3 miles outside of Salt Lake City. Originally just a summer camp, Camp K has grown to include so much more.

Camp K’s summer camps are still their most popular activities, but they also have partner day camps, where attendees with disabilities share the facilities with campers without disabilities, helping both learn how to interact and help each other. Another prominent feature of Camp K’s activities are the equestrian programs, which include both group and private lessons. Camp K also (among other activities) holds a number of community-based programs, specialty programs, and team building activities, as well as offering reservations for private functions.

Though many of their activities appeal to the community generally, Camp K’s real passion is helping those with cognitive or physical disabilities. Camp K believes that helping those with differing abilities is important, and tailors many of their activities to helping such individuals have a fun and rewarding experience.

How You Can Help

While donations (cash or otherwise) are welcome, and they help Camp K to do more for more people, they’re not the only way to get involved. Volunteering to help with the camp for special events is a great way to help out and give back to those who need it most.

Whether helping mentor someone in need at an activity, or getting your hands dirty and helping with more manual tasks, there’s something to do for everyone who wants to help. For those who want to make helping others part of their everyday lives, Camp K has employment opportunities.

So join with us, and help Camp K help others find the confidence to succeed in life.

Top 5 Trends in Furniture Design From 2016

RST Brand Indoor Furniture

Trends in furniture design tend to be cyclical, and 2016 is no exception. But that’s what can make interior and exterior design so fun–finding interesting ways to blend the retro with the modern. Today’s top designers are finding interesting ways to show-off a 1970s vibe while still capturing a modern sensibility of simplicity and sustainability.

Here are the top furniture design trends from 2016 to inspire your next home decorating project.

70’s Inspired Sofas Designed for Lounging & Comfort

What do you picture when you think of 70’s furniture? Low to the ground, tapered legs, and slender profiles. The furniture of this freewheeling decade was built for comfort and it is making a big come back in the furniture scene.

Opting for comfort and high quality is also a great idea because as long as something is super comfortable to lounge in and built with materials designed to last, your family will never stop enjoying them. This plush and boxy Montreal 3 piece sectional is perfect for hanging out with friends all day long or curling up to watch Netflix.

Lava lamp is optional.

Modular

Modular, sectional couches have been popular for years now, but they’re really starting to be integrated into living room and outdoor spaces in exciting new ways.

The versatility of a modular sofa is its biggest advantage. Designers are starting to experiment with different geometric shapes and interesting designs that expand the functionality of a space.

Black is Back

Black is a bold choice, but in the right room it can be gorgeous. Think black matte appliances and accents, as well as moody and dramatic black paint and wallpaper choices.

Don’t be afraid to go to a dark place and envelope a den or family room in black. Choose the dark side with this Valhalla six piece sectional that is perfect for a home theater.

Organic Surfaces with Metallic Touches

Organic surfaces, such as wood, stone, and even geodes are a great contrast to metallic, industrial design that create instant interest. Distressed wood combined with powder-coated steel is a good choice for a coffee table, and decorating touches like petrified wood can lend a room an inviting and rustic feel.

Outdoor-Indoor Integrations

Make your outdoor deck an extension of your indoor living space. You can accomplish this by choosing outdoor furniture that is congruent with your indoor furniture.

By creating a seamless indoor-outdoor transition, you can truly open up your home and take full advantage of your patio and your view. The Deco Collection utilizes diverse and high quality fabric options, making it easy to match with your indoor designs.

With a great set of both outdoor and indoor furniture that complement each other perfectly, you won’t want to wait to entertain family and friends!

2016 Outdoor Furniture Styles to Fall in Love With

Summer is almost here, and that means you will soon be lounging by the pool with a cold iced tea or pulling out your apron to barbecue some of your famous ribs.

New Year’s celebrations have long passed and that means summer is on its way. Get your living space ready with one these beautiful 2016 outdoor furniture styles you’re sure to fall in love with.

Natural Elegance

Keeping it natural allows your outdoor furniture to blend in with the world around you, and connecting with nature is a huge trend in 2016. Try this wicker look to keep the natural elements alive in your outdoor space.

Wicker is a great addition to any patio because the woven design won’t diminish its surroundings. However, that doesn’t mean wicker can’t be elegant. A dark, espresso color will keep your outdoor space stylish and classy. Pick a neutral color palette to accompany your wicker set so the style stays consistent with your lush surroundings.

We love this Deco 9-Piece Dining Set. Its sleek frame brings a classy touch to any outdoor space, while the wicker and wood tabletop will flow well with your backyard environment.

Traditional and Bold

Sometimes it’s fun to stray from the natural by adding a bold color to your outdoor space. If you’re looking for something more petite to fill your outdoor lounge, why not think about choosing a minimal furniture design with a bold hue to complement your space.

With summer fast approaching, it’s hard not to get lost in bright, citrus colors that abound in many backyard setups. But, those that really stand out in 2016 are the bold, yet more demure colors. Choose dark, deep accents over the flashy “look-at-me” colors to give your patio a unique, on-trend touch.

This Astoria 6-Piece Lounge Set is the perfect addition for anyone looking to keep their space traditional, while the navy cushions add that touch of modern we love. The set offers sleek curves and a light frame that doesn’t overpower the surrounding elements.

Modern and Natural

Do you love both modern and natural? It can be hard to choose between the two different styles, but 2016 is all about finding a balance between the two.

Mixing the two styles doesn’t have to be eclectic. Instead of mixing random pieces together, choose pieces that combine textures. This offers a unique style without introducing competing patterns.

For outdoor spaces, consider mixing wicker and aluminum. This combination creates a contemporary look for any patio. The Vistano 7-Piece Lounge Set engenders both a modern and timeless feel. The combination of the aluminum frame with clean modern lines works with wicker, which adds that elegant, natural look. The cushions are kept a soft cream so the interesting frame can stand out on its own.

Conclusion

Natural, demurely bold, and eclectic textures: these are the 2016 outdoor trends that you will see time and time again featured in the pages of your favorite magazines and on the patios of your friends.

Is your outdoor furniture on-trend or outdated? If your furniture is a few years old, it may be time to upgrade. Find all of the styles you want made with lasting, quality materials at RST Brands.

How to prepare for amazing outdoor parties

The summer season is coming soon, and with it the arrival of endless days of sunbathing on your pool deck, barbecuing with friends and family, and sitting by the campfire to keep warm at night. Whatever you decide to do this summer, make every event one that you will remember forever. If you want to host the ultimate summer party that will be the talk of the town, you will need to focus on some of the essential features of an amazing poolside party.

Patio must-haves
Experiencing an outdoor pool party without adequate patio furniture available is like running a marathon in the dead of winter – no fun at all. Determine the number of guests that you initially invited. Estimate how much seating you will need to accommodate the majority of your guests. Outdoor furniture sets are critical to creating a harmonious atmosphere. Some of your guests will find their way to the cool pool water, while others will want to sit and chat with their friends under a large shady umbrella on top of plush cushioned chairs and benches. Whatever the situation is, having enough seating for your guests is an exercise in thoughtfulness that those who were invited will not overlook.

Lighting
Nothing can raise the mood of an outdoor party more than the right type of lighting. Harsh lighting can hurt the eyes of your guests while too little can be the cause of injury and accidents. There should be enough bulbs placed in strategic places to illuminate important, high-traffic areas like stairways and the railing of the patio or deck, but no more than necessary. Try getting creative with the way you use light. Think about hanging strings of white lights, lanterns or tea lights on tree branches. You can also adjust the party mood by using globe string lights. These are stylish, round bulbs that give off a pleasant glow. If you are running wires across your yard, snip bits of wire hangers into U-shaped pegs. Use these to hold the wires down so none of your guests trip over them.

Food and entertainment
When throwing an outdoor party, you will want to have a variety of items available for your guests. Your best bet is creating a buffet line. Arrange your food so that guests can view the spread without creating a traffic jam and place your dining area away from the buffet. Make sure you have extra entrees, side dishes, salad, bread, butter and condiments. As for entertainment, think about your personality and the purpose of your party. Blend a variety of songs from genres like calypso, blue Grass, Dixieland, jazz, soul, rap, acoustic guitar, string quartet, Big Band, and rock.

Increase your home’s value with an outdoor kitchen

According to real estate experts, outdoor kitchens increase home value. If you're looking to up the appeal  of your home, or just add an element that will allow you to enjoy your outdoor dining set, consider building an outdoor kitchen. In any market, buyers prefer a home with an outdoor kitchen to a home without one.  For a few tips on how to cook up a great outdoor kitchen, check out the following list:

To-die-for dining set
There is no better place to look than RST Brands when you are ready to upgrade your outdoor dining. Their selection of gorgeous, resort-style dining sets will add class and sophistication to your patio or deck, and the durable materials will last for years. For larger groups, the 9-piece Deco set is the perfect combination of convenience and style. Seat up to eight guests around the table and choose your favorite color for the plush seating from RST's collection. Or, if an intimate meal is more to your taste, opt for RST Brands's bistro set, in your choice of vibrant colors that will add a pop of brightness to your outdoor decor.

4 must-haves
Create a space that lets you mingle with your guests rather than run in and out of the house for refreshments. Be sure to include the following elements to create the perfect dining space:

  1. Countertops give you a place to slice side dishes and prepare a meal while you wait for the grill to get ready. Install a custom counter against the side of the house, or on either side of your grill, for convenience.
  2. Lighting is important out back, especially as night falls. Make sure to add some task lighting in the form of outdoor lamps or light-activated bulbs. Installing an electrical outlet outside for your light features will give you extra space for a side burner or blender too!
  3. Shelter is another key element for your outdoor kitchen because it can shade the chef from too much sun, or rain if you're unlucky! Try a pergola tied to the house frame or secured to free-standing posts in your garden for a charming look. Or, opt for a stylish resort umbrella to keep you cool and dry.
  4. Sinks can complete your kitchen and really help out if you are more than a few steps from the house. A small fridge for cold drinks can make a big difference too. You'll be able to stay outside longer with everything you need to prepare and clean up after a nice meal.

Add a fire element
For a way to make your outdoor kitchen and dining areas even more inviting, add a fire bowl. This decor piece is an impressive item to bring into your design, and can be a lovely reason to sit and enjoy the evening hours. The fire bowl from RST Brands is equipped with a metal mesh lid that protects you from sparks and flying embers once the wood has burnt down.

Tips for creating a sustainable garden

These days, every part of your home can be more eco-friendly, even your backyard! Design your private retreat that is sustainable as well as a place your family and friends can pull up a pair of outdoor lounge chairs to relax and enjoy the view. Read on for some inspiration on how to do this:

Xeriscaping
Opt for less lawn and more edibles and low-maintenance succulents in your backyard. Many succulents you can find to include in your garden are drought-resistant, so you don't have to worry about watering them as much. This will help cut down on the amount of water you will need to keep your yard looking fresh all summer long. You can still create a comfortable backyard oasis by replacing the grass with islands of multi-purpose trees, shrubs, ground cover and mulch. Use ferns in areas under trees for a lush, healthy yard.

You can also arrange your outdoor dining set so it's nestled into a grouping of native plants that will provide a beautiful backdrop for gatherings outdoors. Plants that are native to your area are already used to the seasonal changes and periods of drought or flooding. They are also hardier and require less maintenance time than imported exotic plants.

Purchase quality outdoor pieces
Choose outdoor furniture for your backyard that is made from quality materials to avoid breakdown in harsh weather conditions. The entire RST Outdoor line of dining sets, chairs, lounges and accent tables offers the perfect options that will provide you and your family with beautiful and durable pieces that will last, with little maintenance but tons of style. You can customize your sets based on color and needs, whether you like to relax under a patio umbrella or enjoy an intimate dinner at a colorful bistro table.

Reign in the rain
Conserve rainwater that you can use to keep your garden healthy. There are different ways to do this. You can find attractive rain gardens, French drains and rain barrels or cisterns that will blend into the style of your backyard. For example, if you have created a Southwestern motif, opt for a clay cistern. Or, if you have sections of your rain gutters where a rain spout won't work, try an attractive and decorative rain chain. Keeping rain water on-site will help you prevent flooding in your yard.

Inject some color into your backyard design

After a long, cold winter, you want to step into your backyard oasis and be energized by the fresh new life that's growing there this spring. Take it up a notch by making an outdoor design trend your own and adding color for a fresh new look that just begs you to spend some time outside enjoying your space.

Sittin' pretty
Inject some color into the landscape with a new bright, bold outdoor furniture set. Colorful and lively outdoor pieces are a great way for you to make a statement. Opt for a fabric set in a vibrant colored mesh like the Sol Sling line of chaise lounges and chairs, or choose a more compact steel Bistro set in a fun tone. This will add personality and style to your deck or patio, as well as create an attractive place to relax with family and guests. Don't forget to invest in some outdoor furniture covers to keep your pieces looking great year to year.

A new patio umbrella is a quick style changer you can try too. Set up a sun shade to keep everyone cool and comfortable in a bright yellow, brick red, or Tuscan orange.

Hang your plants
An attractive, quick and easy way to add color to your yard is to include a few hanging baskets of blooms. They are easy to care for, and take up very little space. You can position several hanging planters flanking your patio door, or add hooks throughout your yard to add interest and bursts of color across the landscape. Plants with brightly colored leaves are a great option, like Coleus, Croton, or New Zealand Flax.

Potted pops of color
By just adding a few colorful pots to your backyard design – with or without plants – you can easily inject some zest and energy into your yard. Choose colors that will pick up the tones in your patio furniture for a finished look. Group several pots in various sizes together for a mini display. Or position them around your yard for dimension.

Touches of textiles
To create a cohesive vibe, include some brightly colored outdoor rugs in the design of your patio or desk space. An outdoor rug can add color and give your outdoor spaces a more finished, room-like look, which will encourage your family and guests to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Toss some outdoor pillows on your lounger or outdoor sofa to instantly upgrade its style. Pillows are easy to change if you want a different look and they're a fun and funky way to express your creativity.

Top outdoor furniture trends for 2014

Good news! The outdoor entertaining season is just around the corner. Homeowners from across the country will be revamping their patio spaces to include the best lounging amenities as they prepare for this season of backyard barbecues and cocktail parties. If you want to have a contemporary backyard, check out these trends for 2014:

Outdoor furniture market news
According to a report released by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), outdoor living spaces are one of the most desirable types of special function rooms. These findings are the result of homeowners wanting to expand their usable living space. Twenty-two percent of the study respondents chose patio space as a desirable feature in their home in the second quarter of 2010. Additionally, according to Global Industry Analysts, the United States market for outdoor furniture is projected to exceed $5 billion by 2017. With the overwhelming interest in this type of living space, it's best to outfit your patio now to stay in line with trends.

Custom spaces
As people spend more time designing their homes, they are selecting custom furniture layouts that fit their style aesthetics. So when revamping your own outdoor living space you can choose what patio chairs you want along with the right table. Or if you prefer a different setup you can select decorative bar stools to go along with your cocktail area. The point is that you can design a space to fit your needs and entertaining style.

Eco-friendly materials
Sustainability is a trend that is sticking around for 2014. These days people prefer to purchase outdoor furniture sets that have been built with eco-friendly materials or construction practices. The use of recycled materials, in particular, is often a popular feature in outdoor furniture. The AIA report also indicated a high interest in energy efficiency in the home. Spending time in an outdoor living space can help you reduce your electricity use.

Large patio spaces
Patio spaces used to be small 20-by-10-foot squares where homeowners were supposed to set their outdoor furniture and grill. However, people are rebuilding their outdoor areas to expand these limitations so there is space for multiple entertaining areas. For example, you can set up one of the popular fire pits so your friends can gather around it on a chilly night. Also you can having a dining room set for meals.

Performance matters
Another trend involves people wanting their furniture purchases be smart ones. For example, it's vital for outdoor sectional sets, individuals sofas and chairs to be made from quality materials. Additional desirable features include furniture that is resistant to fading, scratching and other abuses that might happen from being stored outdoors.
